When Does a Tooth Need to be Removed?
There are several reasons why a tooth may need to be removed from a patient’s mouth. While we always try to save a tooth if possible, we recommend removing a tooth if it causing extreme pain, cannot be saved, or is a threat to overall oral health and surrounding teeth. Here are some reasons we remove teeth:
- Wisdom teeth that are incapable of growing in normally
- Baby teeth that won’t fall out, preventing adult teeth from growing in
- Overcrowded teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Badly damaged teeth
- Teeth decayed beyond treatment

The importance of regular dental checkups
It is important to come to our office for regular dental check-ups. If teeth are left with bacteria and damage for too long, they can become irrevocably decayed. At that point, the only treatment option is to pull the tooth. Before deciding to extract a tooth, a dentist will take an X-ray to see exactly what is happening inside your mouth. This gives our experienced dentists a complete panoramic view of your mouth. If you need a tooth removed but have an oral infection, an unhealthy immune system, or other health concerns, you may be prescribed an antibiotic before and after the extraction procedure.
For all procedures, you can trust our experienced and skilled dentists. If you are experiencing any dental pain or think you may need a tooth extraction, talk to our dentists.
