Your 2-Minute Dental Check-In: What to Think About Before Your Next Visit

Your routine dental visit is about more than just getting your teeth cleaned. It's also an opportunity to check in on your oral health, talk about anything that's changed, and make sure small concerns don't turn into bigger ones.

Before your next appointment at Renken Dentistry of Belterra, take two minutes to think through this quick checklist. If you answer "yes" to anything below, make a mental note—or jot it down in your phone—so you can mention it to our team when you arrive.

Have You Noticed Any Changes With Your Teeth?

  • New teeth sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets
  • A tooth that hurts when you bite or chew
  • A chipped, cracked, rough, or sharp area
  • Food getting caught somewhere it didn't before
  • A filling, crown, bridge, or other dental work that feels different
  • A change in the way your teeth come together when you bite

How Are Your Gums Feeling?

  • Bleeding when brushing or flossing
  • Tender, swollen, or irritated gums
  • Gum recession or teeth that look "longer"
  • An area that's difficult or uncomfortable to brush or floss

Even changes that seem minor are worth mentioning. They can help your dental team get a more complete picture of your oral health.

Any Changes in Your Jaw or Daily Comfort?

  • Jaw soreness, tightness, popping, or clicking
  • Headaches, especially when you wake up
  • Clenching or grinding your teeth
  • Waking up with a tired or sore jaw
  • Changes in your sleep or concerns about snoring

Is There Anything You'd Like to Change About Your Smile?

Your routine visit is also a great time to ask questions about things that may not be causing pain but still bother you.

  • Tooth color or staining
  • Chipped, worn, or uneven teeth
  • Crowding or spacing
  • Missing teeth
  • Old dental work you'd like to improve
  • Anything else that's keeping you from feeling confident about your smile

One More Thing: Has Your Health Changed?

Your overall health and oral health are connected. Let us know if you've had any changes since we last saw you, including:

  • New medications or changes to existing medications
  • A new medical diagnosis or procedure
  • Pregnancy
  • New allergies
  • Changes in tobacco or nicotine use
  • Significant changes to your health history

That's It—You're Ready!

You don't need to remember every detail or diagnose anything yourself. That's our job! This quick check-in simply helps you notice what's changed since your last visit so we can make the most of our time together.

And if everything feels exactly the same? That's great to know, too.

We look forward to seeing you at Renken Dentistry of Belterra!
