Top Parenting Hacks to Raising Kids with Good Oral Habits

At Renken Dentistry, we love to see our patients practice good oral habits. This is indicating to us that we’re doing our job right by our oral education. The formation of habits begins at a very young age and can carry our patients well into adulthood. As a parent, though, you may be asking what you can do to help your child develop good oral habits. In this article, we’ll take a look at a few hacks that will help you with exactly this.

Create a Dental Schedule for Your Children

It’s commonly said that most habits are formed in 66 days. However, depending on the age of your child, their habits and how they are formed can vary. Aside from the habits formed at home, making sure your child doesn’t miss any of their scheduled dental appointments is also very important to put them on the right path for healthy teeth.

  • Pre-teeth dental care: Provide your child with a healthy diet as their teeth are barely beginning to form.
  • Their first teeth: Children's Dentist is a great help during this time of your children’s development. An initial screening is key to make sure everything is fine, and forming a yearly schedule of dentist appointments can begin at this time.
  • Their permanent teeth: By now, your children should be cultivating habits to floss and brush their teeth on their own in addition to their routine dentist visits.

Keep Extra Supplies Around the House

Making sure you never run out of oral supplies is important to keep your child motivated to keep their teeth clean. Having several brushes on hand will also keep things sanitary.

Teach Good Dental Habits

A few more tips and tricks come in the form of the things listed below.

  • Get started with educational TV shows and books
  • Create a dental chart
  • Lead by example
  • Show and tell
  • Involve them in the process
