Do I Need Bone Grafting Before Dental Implants?

Unfortunately, not all of us are happy with what we have been genetically predisposed to express in terms of our smile. If you’re tossing around the idea of possibly getting dental implants to finally have the set of teeth you’ve always wanted, it’s a good idea first to know if you’re the appropriate candidate for such a procedure. If then, you know you are, the next step is to take the steps towards achieving that goal. When it comes to dental implants, some may wonder if bone grafting is necessary for dental implants, and in this article, we will discuss the answer to just that.

Why Bone Grafting is Appropriate in Some Cases

While it is not one hundred percent necessary in all cases, there are some circumstances that call for bone grafting before dental implants.

The appropriate candidate for bone grafting before dental implants includes two sets of instances. Firstly, you may have a weakened jawline or structure that needs extra assistance, or you may have never had or gone many years without restorative dental work done. In both of these cases, your existing jaw may not be resilient enough to withstand the stress of dental implants.

After discussing the matter with your dentist, you both will then decide on the source of bone used for the procedure, and then you will undergo a simple surgery that involves strengthening your jaw area by placing healthy bone into the gum.
