Dental Bonding – A Simple Solution For Several Problems

Dental bonding can be a fast, easy, and pain-free way to fix a number of dental problems. Dental bonding is a simple procedure that can drastically improve the appearance of your teeth and your smile. You can regain lost confidence caused by a chip or crack in your teeth, or even misshapen teeth!

Most Common Uses for Cosmetic Bonding

Dental bonding can be used for a number of different things, including fixing decayed teeth, but cosmetic bonding can fix a number of unsightly problems such as these:

  • Give teeth a longer appearance if your teeth seem unnaturally short
  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Repair a cracked or chipped tooth
  • Fix a misshapen tooth
  • Improve the color of a tooth that is stained or discolored
  • Protect the root of a tooth that has become exposed

The Cosmetic Bonding Procedure

Typically this procedure can be done quickly and easily with no anesthesia. The only time that anesthesia would be required is if dental bonding is being used to repair decayed teeth. That is because first the dentist must drill away the decayed portion of the tooth, which could be painful. If there is no dental decay, then the procedure is completely pain free!

The first thing that your dentist would do, is match the color and shade of the resin that will be used to your natural tooth color. Next, the tooth will be prepared by slightly roughening it so that the resin can easily stick to the surface. Then, the bonding material is applied to the surface and given the desired shape. An ultraviolet light is then used to dry the material. Once it is completely dried, the dentist will trim and polish the resin so that you achieve the best possible result.
