10 Things To Know Before Getting Cosmetic Dentistry

Ready to improve your smile? We offer a variety of cosmetic options in house at all our locations. But we know the decision to get cosmetic dentistry is a big one, and many factors need to be considered, so here are the 10 things we think you need to know before getting Cosmetic Dentistry!

#1 Thing to Know : Why Do You Want To Cosmetic Dentistry?

Tips: Think about what it is that you don’t like specifically and what do you want to enjoy as a result. The clearer you perceive challenges and goals, the more we can succeed because we know exactly what we are working on together.

#2 You Need to Know the Three Types of Cosmetic Dentistry

Before moving forward with cosmetic dentistry, an important thing to know is the different types of cosmetic dentistry and which one might be needed to achieve your desired results.

  1. Natural: whitening and align your natural teeth
  2. Bonding: addition to natural teeth
  3. Prosthetic: Removing tooth structure and adding veneers and crowns or even implants

#3 You Need to Know How to Work with Your Dental Team to Make You Get the Smile You Want

Hint – It shouldn’t be a guess! You and your dental team should be on the same page every step of the journey. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

#4 You Need to Know How Your Systemic Health Will Impact Your Cosmetic Dentistry Choices

Your oral health and your overall health are interconnected! It’s important to note that your medications, bone health, and medical history determine what procedures you are eligible for and how long your new smile will last.

#5 You Need to Know How Your Bite Health Plays a Role in Your Smile

No matter if you have an open bite, underbite, overbite or of the types of misaligned bites, it’s important to recognize the role your bite has played in creating your cosmetic dentistry challenges.

Cosmetic Dentistry will last longer if your bite is in the correct place.

#6 How Much Will It Cost?

Surprise! Cosmetic dentistry can cost as little as $100’s up to tens of $1000’s. Make sure you invest in discretion. Your dental team will discuss your options to be sure you know the full picture and what to expect before getting started.

#7 How Much Time and How Many Appointments?

Tip: Be careful with “same day” cosmetic dentistry. When going with a same day fix, materials may be compromised and you may run into design limitations.

This is your smile you are talking about! You want this work to last decades, don’t rush it!

#8 How Long Will It Last

Unfortunately there is no actual set in stone expiration date. The dentistry can deteriorate, or your teeth, gums or bite health can fail.

#9 What Behaviors Do You Have to Avoid After Getting Cosmetic Dentistry

Tips: You have to protect your bite so that force is distributed in a healthy way.

You have to be gentle! So chewing on decking screws… not recommended!

#10 You Need A Process That Makes Sure We Account For All These Important Steps

At Renken Dentistry we want to ensure you leave our office with a smile that not makes you feel more confident but is healthier overall. To ensure we know we meet this goal, we follow a 5 Step Process.

  1. Discovery Interview – understand you, how you feel about your smile and a thorough medical history review.
  2. Imagery – complete x-ray imaging and 3D scans to detect any underlying issues.
  3. Choose Cosmetic Dentistry Type – Using all the information we’ve gathered, we will present you with our plan, work on making it affordable and setting up the scheduled.
  4. Preparation and Try In – We review the plan and then prepare your teeth. We deliver your proposed smile and make sure it looks good that day. You will walk around for a couple weeks and make sure you like the tooth shape, color and arrangement.
  5. Approve and Deliver Your New Smile – Make changes in the proposal until you are happy and scan it in so the lab knows what to replicate.

3 Ways to Earn Extra Appreciation and Compensation as a Dental Assistant

In many practices, dental assistants are limited to a few tasks- run sterilization, pass instruments, vacuum saliva… Not so at Renken Dentistry! We see our dental assistant team members as true professionals that deserve a path for career growth. Emerging technology, advanced  procedures, and partner style care delivery require dedicated learners that want to improve patients health and their professional success along the way. Here are just a few extra ways we reward our dental assistants for their contributions.

You Get Extra Pay for Inviting Others to Join our Team.

Dentistry is a team sport! We can’t care for a growing number of patients unless our team grows too. Do you know someone who you wish was on our team? A Bert to your Ernie, a Scottie Pippen to your Michael Jordan, or a peanut butter to your jelly? We succeed when our best team members invite others to join our group. As a member of our team, you earn extra money when you refer a candidate who eventually joins the effort- you also earn the enduring gratitude of your fellow teammates.

Mentoring to Support New Team Member Development Pays Off in Our Organization

You can be a part of leading our team to greater levels of health. Performing at a high level is even more rewarding when you turn around and help the next person succeed. We believe every team member deserves support from an experienced team member to help them be successful in their new role. In our group everyone benefits when we get better at supporting each other as we create health for our patients. Since we are growing, there are lots of opportunities to earn extra pay for paying it forward for a new team member.

Leading the Way Professional Development Opportunities Pay Out as the Practice Grows

Our patients can’t grow to advanced levels of health unless you develop as a professional. Our company does not limit opportunities for team members based on seniority or hierarchy. We want every person to have as many professional development opportunities as they desire. There’s always extra ways to level up- you can help organize and support a specialty procedure, grow behind the scenes on the administrative side, or take a role leading in the community as you help build out our Academy. Maybe you have an area of expertise you would like to pursue that will help our practice grow in a healthy way? We want to harness the imagination and potential of all of our team members. However it happens, we are committed to find growth opportunities for you. Let us know when you are ready!

A Teeth Cleaning Can Combat Bad Breath and Plaque Build Up

No one wants to be handed a mint or gum from anyone close to them, suggesting they have bad breath. Aside from brushing, what can you do to keep bad breath at bay? A few things can be responsible for the odor, but in this article, we’ll discuss everything you can do to mitigate the bad smells or even pinpoint bigger reasons for your halitosis.

Cleaning Your Teeth is Important

Brushing and flossing your teeth are so important for so many reasons: some you can see and some you can smell! Bacteria growing in the nooks and crannies of your mouth can manifest themselves as odors you don’t want to share with others. In addition to flossing, use of a water flosser can get an even deeper clean. The deepest clean of them all though comes in the form of a cleaning you can get at your dental office. Don’t take these appointments for granted and try your hardest never to miss them.

Some Common Reasons for Bad Breath

Below are just a few of the more common symptoms that may suggest you are suffering from a more clinical type of bad breath:

  • Smoking and Tobacco Use – A stale odor can be left behind after smoking. Cutting back or even quitting can help this smell.
  • Throat or Respiratory System Infection – With an infection present, a highly detectable symptom is a smell.
  • Kidney or Liver Disease – The bad smell associated with this ailment may be different, if you notice this kind of bad breath, visit a doctor.
  • Dry Mouth or Dehydration – These can be side effects of certain medications, or if you’re not drinking enough. Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking enough water throughout the day.

Whatever the issue may be, at Renken Dentistry, we want to be the ones you choose to help you. Our dentists and highly trained staff are more than equipped to handle any kind of dental problem, not just bad breath. Give us a call today to set up a consultation in order to have the best oral health of your life!

When is a Dental Extraction Necessary?

Most dental professionals will agree that tooth extraction is typically the last resort, but many patients may be unaware of how necessary it can be. In the following article, we will discuss a few reasons that you or someone you may know will need a dental extraction. Read closely and see if you fall under any of these categories, in which case you may have to give your dentist a call!

Dental Extraction for Severe Pain

If you have severe pain or are experiencing a sudden toothache, do not jump to conclusions and assume you may need a dental extraction. Call your dentist as soon as possible; they can schedule an x-ray to pinpoint the exact cause of the pain.

Extensive Decay and Damage?

If you have had the dental filling, and the root canal, your last option may be an extraction. At the point that your tooth decay has gotten so severe that restoring damaged or fractured teeth are impossible, there may be only this one option for you and your dentist.

Issues with the Gums Can Lead to a Dental Extraction

If you suffer from gum disease or an infection that antibiotics cannot seem to remedy, extraction will soon prove itself to be the more effective option. To evade bone loss, an extraction is definitely necessary.

A Dental Extraction Might Prove Necessary Following the Spread of an Infection

If you are suffering from a tooth infection, in order to stop the spread rather quickly, extraction is the best way to stop the infection from spreading right in its tracks.

We at Renken Dentistry are ecstatic to have the opportunity to meet you and your family. We want to help you achieve your best smile or just overall dental care possible, even if that means suggesting a dental extraction. Give us a call today to schedule a consultation for any oral care need you may have!

Visit a Family Dentist for Improved Oral Health

At our dental practice, we aim to make our office a sanctuary for you and your family. We know we’re trying for a hard goal, as many wouldn’t associate the dentist’s office with sanctuary. In any case, we take being a family dentist very seriously, making sure we keep you educated in how to be as healthy as possible outside of our office.

Dealing with a Fear of Dental Checkups

A large portion of the population, unfortunately, suffered from something called dental phobia, or the fear of coming to the dentist. This can lead many to evade the dentists at all costs, even allowing themselves to suffer from pain before stepping foot in the dentist office. There could be many reasons for any one person to fear the dentist.

The reasons could possibly be from trauma at the dentist early in life, or even not having come to the dentist in a long time. The span of time in between visits can grow anxiety in the suffering patient. As a family dentist, it is imperative that we make visits to the dentist more enjoyable, working with our patients to mitigate or even overcome these fears.

Identifying the Source of the Fear

The best thing we can do as your family dentist is to pinpoint where the fear stems from exactly. Once we identify the fear, we can then work on it and allow you or your family to overcome this fear.

At Renken Dentistry, we want your family to live without fear of the dentist, allowing you to achieve the best dental care you possibly can. If you or a member of your family needs to have a dentist visit in order to improve their oral care, we highly suggest you visit our office. Here we treat our patients with the highest quality of care. Give us a call today to see the difference!
